Executive Summary
As the Indian economy grows, there is an urgent need to produce skilled manpower of international standard to meet the industry's rising demand. It has also been observed that the Vocational Education and Training (VET) system is not geared up to cater to the current needs of the labor market. Industry's limited involvement in the management of vocational training is also seen as a major constraint in bridging the gap between demand and supply.
The Government of India recognizes the need to increase access to and improve the quality and relevance of vocational education and training in the country. An exclusive ministry was formed for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The Government of India has announced several schemes and projects for enhancing the skill development institutions both at the Center and State levels. Skills Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE) is one such pioneering initiative, assisted by The World Bank.
With the objective of improving the relevance and efficiency of skills training, BBNIA has entered into an agreement with the Department of Technical Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh, through the Directorate of Technical & Industrial Training, Sundernagar, District Mandi (HP) for the STRIVE project. The main objective is to increase access to quality and market-driven vocational training provided at Baddi Technical Training Institute (BTTI) Private ITI and through apprenticeships in industries. This includes sharing demand and collaboratively developing new or existing job roles to enhance the training ecosystem. Industries benefit by receiving better-trained and certified candidates under this project.
